Scholarships for Syrian refugees in Egypt from the German University in Cairo

The German University in Cairo offers 10 Grants for Syrian refugees Currently residing in Egypt and registered as refugees through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to study a two-year master’s program in the fields of engineering or management technology.

The German Federal Foreign Office (AA) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the University of Ulm gladly announce 10 scholarship opportunities for young Syrians currently residing in Egypt and registered as refugees through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to study a two-year Master’s degree.

The German University in Cairo hopes that the scholarships will give postgraduate students the possibility of shaping their future, creating new horizons and opening new horizons. These study opportunities should also serve the goal of preparing highly qualified professionals and leaders who can play an integral role in rebuilding their homeland, Syria.

Covers grants for Syrian refugees

  • Tuition fees for completing a two-year master's degree
  • A monthly allowance of 500 euros
  • Any additional university preparatory courses if necessary

Scholarships are offered for the standard period of study in the chosen program (maximum period of two years), as well as for preparatory courses before the start of the actual studies of the Master's program if necessary.

Criteria for granting Syrian refugees

  • Syrian citizens currently residing in Egypt and registered with UNHCR as refugees.
  • Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (within the past five years) in the same field from an accredited university with a minimum overall GPA of at least “good” for no more than five years since completing this degree.

selection criteria

Scholarship selection will follow the admission regulations of the German University in Cairo. All students who meet the application requirements for the program as well as apply before the deadline and submit the required documents as announced will be considered for the scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to the top ten applicants.

  • Motivation letter
  • Work-related experience

Admission and registration at the German University in Cairo

  1. Fill out an online application
  2. Once you fill out the online application, you will receive a GUC application number.
  3. Receive an “Admission Test Invitation Email”, where you will be asked to book an online admission test session
  4. Take the German University in Cairo admission test on the university's campus
  5. Pass the computerized English language test

Required Documents

Submit a copy of the required documents On the same day of the admission test, please submit a copy of the following documents:

  1. Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcript
  2. High School certificate
  3. CV and any work/training certificates
  4. A copy of a valid passport
  5. A copy of the birth certificate
  6. Motivation letter in English
  7. Original and stamped Commission document Note: On the date of the admission test, the applicant must arrive at the American University Admissions Office at least one hour before the session start time in order to complete the test registration process
  8. Receive final feedback from the AUC Admissions Office based on the evaluation of your credentials
