The Aga Khan Scholarships for Egyptian and Syrian Masters and Doctoral Students offers a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from selected developing countries, who have no other means of financing their studies.

This aims to develop effective scholars and leaders and prepare them for work. Scholarships cover 50% of costs: this percentage is a loan awarded during a competitive application process once a year in June or July.

The Foundation gives priority to applications for master's and doctoral degrees, but in special cases is willing to consider applications for doctoral programmes, of outstanding students strongly recommended by their professors for doctoral studies, and who need a doctorate to achieve their professional goals (academic or research).

Conditions for the Aga Khan Scholarship

  1. Applications for short-term courses, or applications from students who have already started their course of study, will not be considered.
  2.  Those interested in development-related studies who have no other means to finance their education.
  3. The Foundation only accepts applications from qualified citizens who meet the listed conditions
  4. and who reside in a country where there is a local Aga Khan Foundation, Aga Khan Education Services, or Aga Khan Education Council offices.
  5. Which handles the process of processing applications and conducting interviews for candidates.
  6. Preference will be given to students under 30 years of age.
  7. Who have excellent academic records.
  8. Real financial need.
  9. Admission to a reputable university or study programme.
  10. The field of study is related to the areas of the Aga Khan Development Network.
  11. Candidates are also evaluated based on their demonstrated educational and career plans, along with their extracurricular interests and achievements.
  12. As well as the potential to achieve their goals and the likelihood of their success in a foreign academic environment.
  13. Applicants must have some years of practical experience within their field of interest.
  14. The Foundation only accepts applications from qualified citizens who reside in one of the countries in which the Aga Khan Foundation has its offices

Aga Khan Scholarship Funding

  • The Foundation's assistance to students is limited to paying tuition fees and living expenses.
  • Scholarships offered by the Aga Khan Foundation do not cover the cost of travel.
  • For doctoral programs, it is only funded during the first two years of study.
  • Students are expected to later find helpful alternative sources of funding.
  • Applicants are requested to make every effort to obtain funding from other alternative sources, so that the amount requested by the Foundation can be reduced to a minimum.
  • In addition, priority is given to those who were able to obtain some funding from alternative sources.

Steps to register for the Aga Khan Scholarships

  • Students must obtain application forms from either the Aga Khan Foundation offices or the Aga Khan Education Services Boards in their current country of residence.
  • Fill out the application form.
  • Return the application to the agency from which it was obtained.
  • Note: Students must also prepare to conduct interviews with local scholarship committees about their financial situation and academic performance.
  • Along with their own extracurricular achievements and career plans, these interviews are held in late June or early July and the Aga Khan Foundation notifies all students of the outcome of their applications within a short time.
