Italy MAECI Scholarship for International Students
The Italy Scholarship funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) provides an opportunity for the benefit of foreign students in order to promote international cooperation in the cultural, scientific and technological fields.
To promote the Italian language and culture and to support the Italian economic system in the world, grants are offered to complete study courses, research and training programs in public or legally recognized Italian educational institutions.

Scholarships to study the Italian language
Scholarships for 3-month Italian language and culture courses are awarded exclusively to students attending an Italian language course at a university or at an Italian cultural institute.
Applicants must provide a certificate regarding their proficiency in the Italian language, and applications must be sent exclusively through the STUDY IN ITALY portal.
Applicants must have a valid passport or ID card. They must upload a legible copy of the document at the time of registration, under penalty of disqualification.
Applicants must have the following requirements in place by the call deadline (9 June, 2.00pm CET).
Italy scholarship for master’s students
Scholarships are awarded for all 9-month master's degree programmes, and admission requires completion of a bachelor's degree.
For some master's degree specializations, registration is only possible after passing entrance exams, such as arts and architecture specializations. Applicants are urged to check this or other requirements with the university of their choice.
Italy Scholarship in Arts, Music and Dance
Scholarships are awarded for higher education courses in arts, music and dance for a study period of 6 or 9 months.
To be accepted into the Italy Scholarship for the Department of Arts and Music, applicants must meet the admission requirements and academic qualifications set by the Higher Institute of Music such as the admission test and submit a previous work project.
Italy Scholarship for Ph.D
Scholarships are awarded for a doctoral program for a study period of 6 or 9 months. To be admitted to a doctoral degree in Italy, applicants must meet the admission requirements and academic qualifications set by the university.
Before applying for an Italy doctoral scholarship, you must obtain admission from a public university in Italy and send an admission application with the scholarship application.
Conditions for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs scholarship
- Applications must only be submitted by foreign students
- Have an appropriate academic qualification required to enroll at the university
- Applicants for the Master's Degree and Higher Education Programs in Arts, Music and Dance and Advanced Courses in Italian Language and Culture must have reached the age of majority and must not exceed 28 years of age.
- Applicants for doctoral programs must have reached the age of majority and not be more than 30 years old by the deadline of this call
- Applicants for research projects under academic supervision must be of majority age and not exceed 40 years of age.
- In order to enroll in a course taught in Italian, applicants must provide a certificate regarding their proficiency in the Italian language.
- The minimum level required is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Candidates who have enrolled in a course taught in Italian or in an Italian language course at the university may submit a language certificate issued by the person responsible for the above-mentioned courses, which proves the required Italian language level.
- In order to enroll in a course taught in English, applicants must provide a language certificate regarding their proficiency in the English language. The minimum level required is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Self-certification may be accepted for candidates from countries where English is an official language. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in English can submit a document proving that their Bachelor's degree study program was conducted entirely in English.
- No proof of proficiency in Italian is required for courses taught entirely in English.
- For Italian language and culture courses, applicants must provide a certificate of their proficiency in the Italian language. The minimum level required is A2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Evidence of linguistic proficiency is not required for doctoral programs and academically supervised research.
Note:
The winners will be informed of the number of months and the specific start date of the scholarship by sending a letter of acceptance to the scholarship by the competent Italian diplomatic mission. This document represents the official law for awarding the scholarship. The scholarship recipient will have to initiate university registration procedures before the scholarship start date.
