New Netherlands visa conditions
You are applying for a New Netherlands Visa. An ordinary residence permit is a residence permit for a reason other than asylum. For example, working, studying or living with your partner. Each purpose of residence has its own conditions for obtaining a residence permit.
In addition to those conditions, you must meet these requirements that apply to everyone:
- You must have a valid passport or other travel document.
- You must not pose a risk to public order or national security.
- Every person over the age of 12 must fill out the record certificate appendix completely and attach it to the application.
- On this certificate, you indicate whether you have ever committed a misdemeanor or crime:
- After arriving in the Netherlands, you must take a tuberculosis (TB) test.
- You have an employment contract with an employer or research institution in the Netherlands.
- The agreed salary is in line with the market rate.
Application process for the new Netherlands visa
The application process for a residence permit includes the following steps:
- Make sure you meet all of the above requirements.
- Your employer will provide you with a list of documents you need. Ensure that official documents from abroad are translated and legalized into Dutch, English, French or German.
- The employer can submit the application online or in writing by mail.
- The employer will apply for the temporary residence permit (MVV) and the residence permit at the same time.
- The cost of submitting an application is 380 euros. The employer will automatically pay by direct debit.
- The Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service must make a decision within 90 days. You can follow the status of your application via “My IND”.
- You will receive a message with the decision, whether positive or negative. In case of a positive decision, you will receive a temporary residence permit (MVV) and a residence permit.
- You can travel to the Netherlands using a temporary residence permit (MVV). Make sure you receive it within 3 months of the decision.
- When your residence permit is ready, you will receive a message to schedule an appointment to collect it from the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service office.

1. Determine who can submit this request
- The sponsor must be recognized by the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) or be an authorized representative of the recognized sponsor.
- In this section, the status that applies to the skilled migrant is selected:
- Entry and residence procedures: If the migrant is still residing abroad and must obtain a temporary residence permit.
- Regular residence permit procedures: If the migrant does not need a temporary residence permit and resides in the Netherlands or is still abroad.
- Extending the validity of the residence permit.
- Changing the residence permit and extending its validity.
2. Details of the recognized sponsor
- Company name: Write the name of the sponsoring company.
- IND Client Number: The company's client number with the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
- Name of the contact person.
- Mail address: Write the company address.
- Phone number and email of the person in charge.
- Commercial Registration Number: The number registered with the Chamber of Commerce.
3. Details of the authorized representative (if applicable)
- This section must be completed if there is an authorized representative submitting the application on behalf of the recognized sponsor.
- Details of the authorized company, responsible person, and contact address are entered.
4. Details of the skilled immigrant
- V number (if known).
- Civil service number (if known).
- Full name as it appears in the passport.
- Gender: Select gender.
- Date of birth, place of birth and country.
- Nationality and civil status.
- Passport details: include number, country, and validity date.
- The address is outside the Netherlands or in the Netherlands if the immigrant resides there.
- Phone number and email.
- The status that applies to a skilled migrant: Determine whether the migrant is within a particular category such as a scientific researcher, guest lecturer, or trainee doctor.
- The gross monthly salary of a skilled immigrant.
5. Acknowledgment of conditions
- The sponsor must confirm its commitment to the responsibilities and conditions required for a recognized sponsor, including the duty of care, the obligation to provide information, and the duty to keep records.
- Confirm that the skilled immigrant meets the income requirements.
- Certification that the skilled immigrant has completed and signed the history certificate.
6. Duration of the employment contract
- The sponsor must provide details of the skilled migrant’s employment contract:
- Temporary contract: with a specified start and end date.
- Permanent contract: with specified start date.
7. Date of entry (if a temporary residence permit is required)
- Determine the date of the immigrant’s entry into the Netherlands. If the date is unknown, it starts from the day after the temporary residence permit is issued.
8. Place of receipt of the temporary residence permit
- The Dutch embassy or consulate in the country of origin or country of continued residence where the temporary residence permit will be received must be specified.
9. Place of receipt of residence permit
- You must specify the IND office where the immigrant will receive the residence permit. There is also an option to pick it up at the Expatcenter in select cities.
10. Signature by the recognized sponsor
- The sponsor must sign the form and confirm that he or she has completed the application completely and correctly.
- Write the name, place, and date.
11. Required documents and documents
- Copies of supporting documents such as a copy of the Skilled Migrant's Passport and Certificate of History (if not previously signed) must be attached.
12. Biometric information (fingerprints, passport photo) and signature
- The applicant for a new Netherlands visa must present his fingerprints and a copy of the passport when receiving the residence permit. Some cases may require that this information be provided in advance at the Dutch embassy or consulate.
13. Submit the order and pay
- After collecting all required documents, the application is sent to the IND by mail. A notification will be sent of the amount required to be paid and the payment method.
