Dates for studying medicine in Romania

Annually, each university with a medical faculty determines the application period. Theoretically, the application can be submitted twice a year, but the second depends on the availability of seats based on the first application period.

Approximate application period to study medicine in Romania:

  • March 01 to July 20 every year.
  • 01 September 10 September.
  • The academic year begins at the beginning of October and ends at the end of June of the following year.

Cost of studying medicine in Romania

Tuition fees at Romanian universities for students range from 3500 euros to 9000 euros, depending on the university, and this amount can be paid in installments.

The cost of studying the medical preparatory year is about 2500 euros, paid once, and until the completion of the study in the first year and success in the second semester, the student moves on to study medicine directly.

Transport of medical students in Romania

It is possible to transfer to medical universities in Romania:

  • Medical students who started a medical university in another country and wish to continue their studies at a Romanian medical university.
  • Student who has started university studies related to medical university studies (biology, chemistry, biophysics, etc.) or has finished such studies and wants to start medical university studies in Romania.
  • Medical student in Romania moving from one university to another (the application deadline is different and depends on the university: June to the beginning of October!).

Conditions for transfer to Romanian medical universities

  • The student must have completed at least two years of study.
  • The student must submit a high school diploma
  • The student must submit a transcript of grades for the academic years in the subjects he passed.
  • The success rate for the number of subjects studied by the student must be no less than 85% of the total number.
  • For most medical universities, transfer students must apply to their first year like all other students.
  • The student must pay for the seat for each exam from the previous year (320 to 500 euros/exam).

Special documents required from transferred students:

  • Complete copies of certificates with original seal and signature of the university;
  • College curriculum with original seal and signature of the university;
  • Syllabus for all subjects taken with the original seal and signature of the university;
  • University grading system and its equivalent in the Romanian education system;
  • Application assessment fees (non-refundable if applicable: for some universities) are paid into a university bank account via bank transfer;
  • Official application for transfer (if applicable: to some medical universities!);

Documents issued in languages ​​other than English or French must be translated into English/French/Romanian (certified translation) and must be certified by the issuing university.

  • Knowledge of the Romanian language (level B2) is mandatory as the specialization (postgraduate medical studies) is conducted in Romanian only.
  • Citizens belonging to the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation must comply with the same legal requirements as Romanian citizens (Law 316/2006), and must take a residence examination in the Romanian language.
  • Citizens who do not belong to the European Union, European Economic Area and Swiss Confederation can register in the self-supported fee-based exchange format.
  • They must pay tuition fees annually.
  • The student is accepted to do the specialization on the condition that he first undergoes a one-year preparatory course in Romanian and obtains a Romanian language certificate.

  • A copy of transcript of records of previously completed studies (high school and university studies);
  • A copy of the birth certificate;
  • A copy of the passport (pages 1, 2, 3 and 4);
  • A copy of the medical certificate specifying that the candidate does not have any infectious diseases or any other diseases incompatible with the medical study and profession, thus proving the applicant’s health status;
  • Six recent photos;
  • A copy of a detailed CV;
