Objective of the Technical University PhD Scholarship in Denmark

The goal of the Technical University Doctoral Scholarship is to develop a new environmentally friendly and intelligent composite material system to overcome the limitations of current 3D printable concrete materials. This position is funded by the VILLUM Foundation Young Investigator Program.

The Department of Manufacturing Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, conducts research based on the interdisciplinary use of process technology, materials science, solid and fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics in the analysis of industrial models and development processes. The research objective of the Technical University Doctoral Scholarship is to advance “precision manufacturing” to meet the performance, durability, reliability, size and cost requirements of modern products.

Responsibilities and tasks

• The integration of 3D printing into construction provides cutting-edge tools to open up new technological approaches in the field of construction and interior design. However, as with any new technology, there remain significant challenges regarding building materials, cost, technology and environmental impacts that must be addressed to achieve desirable sustainable structural properties in the building and construction sectors. Therefore, this PhD project is dedicated to creating conceptually printable sustainable building materials that can address some of the above challenges.

Your main responsibilities will be:

• To maintain accurate and complete records of all results.

• To write progress reports and prepare results for publication and dissemination via journals, presentations and the Internet.

Qualifications for registration in the Technical University Scholarship

1. Candidates must have a two-year Master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year Master's degree.
2. Only applicants who strive to be among the very brightest in their field and science at the highest international level will be considered. 3. The successful candidate has a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering. The candidate is familiar with the latest materials characterization techniques and is expected to have experience in laboratory work and building materials as well as experience in one or more of the following areas:

• 3D printing technology.
• Knowledge of inorganic chemistry.
• Geopolymers or alkali-activated materials.
