As a general rule, the German language certificate required for the desired degree program must be submitted as part of your application.
If you take one of the recognized exams after the application deadline, we can consider your application if you submit a binding registration for the exam (TestDaF, DSH, etc.) and this is done in time for you to be able to submit the exam certificate by the time you register for your studies.
I cannot provide proof of knowledge of the German language. Can I still apply for a course taught in German?
If you have basic knowledge of the German language (minimum level B1 CEFR), but your language skills are not sufficient for a degree programme, you can register as a student on a language course.
Preparatory language courses for study are conducted by the Bielefeld Language Institute Baby in cooperation with the University. At the end of this language course, you can register for TestDaF and thus obtain the language certificate necessary to study at Bielefeld University.
Basic condition To register as a language course participant is required to be accepted by the Student Office. You will be accepted if you apply for a bachelor's or master's program at Bielefeld University and have the academic qualification as well as the German language level B1, proven by a Goethe-Zertifikat B1 certificate or proof of 800 hours of German language lessons.
